The Origins of the MFFA
In 2023, the music industry acknowledged that isolated efforts to combat streaming fraud were ineffective. Despite occasional success, working in silos allowed fraud—estimated to affect nearly 10% of all streams—to thrive, harming artists, fans, and the entire ecosystem.
The Music Fights Fraud Alliance was formed to unite stakeholders across the industry in a coordinated fight against fraud. Now over 20 members strong, including rightsholders, platforms, and distributors, the Alliance is actively detecting, preventing, and mitigating fraud to build a fairer, more transparent digital music economy.
